1945 - 1956

In 1945 WW2 ended and peace was declared and slowly towns & cities began the massive task of rebuilding It was the same for Bristol Evan as late 1960's the centre of Bristol was a bomb site instead of rebuilding the centre as it had been before the war it was eventually turned in a park with ruined church of St Peter's in the centre the ruined church of St Mary le Port was demolished except for the Tower which is now surrounded by office buildings

Grandpa continued to work for the South West Gas Board Dad was called up for National Service doing 2 years with the Royal Artillery one of the people he met was John Stephenson it was the beginning of a friendship that was to continue until he died we are still friends with John's family today After dad had done his National Service he Went to Cambridge to read Theology where he got a BA he then went to Wells Theological College to train as a priest towards the end of his training he met Mum who was a Occupational Therapist at Frenchay Hospital The hospital put on a staff Pantomime dad was one of Robin's merry men mum was one Maid Marian's merry maidens They married at St Peter's Church Henleaze 21st June 1952 on the 14th October 1953 his first Grandchild was born he was named Martin Giles Palmer Grandpa was upset that he wasn't given dad's name as a second name on the 12th July 1955 his second Grandson was born he was named Nigel James Palmer

After Grandpa retired he was awarded the MBE His appointment was 2nd Jan 1956 he was invested with it on the 6th March 1956
